Starting a New Business by Working as Freelancer

Internet always welcomes freelancers. In other types of business, you need to have capital, space, man power and other stuff to get a start. But if you don’t have sufficient amount in hand, how to get started?  Following are two ideas according to your knowledge and expertise.

1. If you are a Computer Professional:

If you are a computer professional, you can get started by joining one or more freelancing websites. Like odesk, elance, getafreelancer, peopleperhour etc. After making your initial profile, you have to make some credibility. By credibility, I mean you have to prove your skills and experience by showing some examples of previous work or just a sample, this is called a portfolio.

As you are making grounds, In addition to portfolio, you have to pass some basic computing skills tests as well as advance test in your own category of expertise. Like, if you are a web designer, the CSS, XHTML, FLASH tests may help. It depends on your field, not mandatory.  For online tests, you can join brainbench.com

Regardless of which website you are affiliated with, always pay attention to details. Read the FAQs and the community discussions and news. You will learn very useful tips there. Ask some of senior users to review your profile and give comments. Hence you will learn that what you are missing.

Now browse for jobs and apply in your respective category. Be careful while writing the application. Be concise but accurate and provide relevant details in your application. Always remember to show the client that ‘You know what he wants or needs, and you can make the things done’.

2. If you are not a Computer Professional:

If you are not a computer professional, still you can get benefit by freelancing. You can join and make your identity as described above. Now you have the option to work on the basic administrative jobs like data entry, writing etc. For example in writing jobs, you can write on your favorite topics and submit them to clients. There are many jobs in which you only need to have common sense and ability to learn by the details. For example, one of my friends was assigned to a job where he has to make suggestions for more levels of a game. In another job, he was assigned to read the product details and put his remarks on them. You may find this hard in the start but things will become easy with the passage of time and you may get very interesting work to do.

3. Working as a Team or Company:

It’s the next step to your freelancing career to make a team of workers or professionals. Sometimes, working as independent freelancer doesn’t produce good income. If you can get some people and build a team, you can get more work and complete it in better way. In this way you will earn double as independently. Try to get new peoples which are starters and need guidance. With your help and experience, they can grow and produce good results. Making a team needs management of time, resources and tasks. Always remember that, as much details and guidance you will provide to the team, so many good results will be produced and your team/company will grow more.
